Trench Revolution

"The trench coat is the only thing that has kept its head above water."

                                                                             -Jack Lipman

The Trench coat
First developed as an alternative to the heavy serge greatcoats
worn by British and French soldiers in the First World War,
the trench coat has become a worldwide fashion phenomena
Invention of the trench coat is claimed by both BurberryAquascutum.

Because the jacket was primarily worn by soldiers fighting in the trenches
the rain coat was eventually dubbed the 'trench coat.'

The Burberry Trench Coat:
For a long time, the trench was associated with
intellectual chic because it was classic and never went out of fashion
It has been over a century since Thomas Burberry
invented a special type of fabric (gabardine) for a comfortable and rain-resistant coat.

The Burberry Trench has been imitated by not only the military
but also by fashion houses across the world.

The trench became popular in the street and on the big screen,
but never lost its charm
even as it became assiciated with reactionary movements through the fashion ages

Over time Burberry and other designers have
modernized the Trench
by adding studs, prints, ruffles, or by using different fabrics

The Reborn Trench:
traditional with a twist.

but...
The Classic beige Trench:
still remains a timeless wardrobe essential.

The Traditional trenches have 10 crossover buttons

&&&
come in classic colours (khaki, beige or black).

The Trench has become a highly fashionable statement piece

Like the classic Tweed Chanel suit and the Hermes Birkin bag

The Burberry Trench coat is one of fashion's most iconic pieces.
